Expanding Our Horizons

Horizon - New Zion Baptist Church
No one knows what is beyond the horizon or what the future holds for them as individuals. However, we can count on one thing for certain, no matter what life throws our way. What is that one thing? It’s GOD! His Word tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” With this verse in mind, we have before us an opportunity to tap into God’s plans for the future of New Zion Baptist Church collectively as a body of Christ, and individually, as followers of Jesus.
The mission statement of New Zion may have been stated many different ways over the years. Our overarching mission statement has best been stated by Jesus’ words recorded in Matthew 28:19, 20.
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” …
Loving People By Sharing Christ With Them And Helping Them Grow In Christ’s Likeness!
For more than a century, our church family has watched God grow this ministry in ways that began with very humble beginnings. As we look back with gratitude and forward with faith, we want to share how the Lord has led us and the vision we believe He has placed before us.
-
Our church began in 1905 with a donation of 1½ acres of land and a single building.
-
Today, God has blessed us with more than 14 acres and four buildings that support our growing ministries.
-
Our leadership remains committed to fulfilling Christ’s commission by reaching people in our community and around the world with the gospel.
-
To do this effectively, we must continue to develop strong leaders and provide safe, adequate space for ministry now and in the future.
Looking ahead, two key additions are being planned:
-
A new secured children’s building designed to meet the needs of our growing discipleship ministries and to serve future generations.
-
An enclosed connecting atrium that will link the sanctuary, the new children’s building, and the family ministry center.
The atrium will:
-
Provide protection from the weather between buildings
-
Create a clear and welcoming main entrance
-
Offer additional fellowship space, including a coffee area where members can gather and connect
As we consider these plans, we are reminded that it is not ultimately about buildings, but about what God chooses to do in and through His people. Our prayer is that these spaces will help us continue growing together in faith, serving one another, and reaching others with the love of Christ for many years to come.
How can we accomplish these goals?
Next Steps
-
Congregational Survey: In March, we will partner with AUXANO, a church consulting group, to conduct a confidential survey. This survey will gather feedback on the project and estimate potential giving (not a pledge) to help evaluate financial feasibility. The survey will be available both digitally and in paper form during worship on Sunday, March 22, and will remain open for eight days to ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate.
-
Assessment by AUXANO: After the surveys and related interviews are completed, AUXANO will analyze the results to determine the level of interest among members and evaluate the church’s financial capacity to move forward with the project.
-
Potential Fundraising Campaign: If the feedback indicates support and feasibility, the church will prepare for a church-wide fundraising campaign in the Fall of this year, including special worship services and events designed to engage the entire New Zion family.
As we take these steps, our goal is to move forward wisely, prayerfully, and together as a congregation. Your participation and input are essential as we seek God’s direction and ensure that any plans we pursue align with His provision and His purpose for New Zion.
