We will have a youth camp meeting on Wednesday, June 3rd, at 7:00 pm

If you have signed up, please review the following information with your teen, especially the updated cell phone guidelines and dress code.

The theme for the youth camp is Pause. The theme Scripture for the week will be Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

During the week, we will have small-group Bible studies, a time of apologetics Q&A, and worship and preaching led by Brett Davis. Brett was our camp pastor and is now the FCA area Director for the Lake Lands in Upstate South Carolina. We will not be doing a mission project this year. We will place greater focus on our small-group time.

The small group outlines are the following:

Session 1: Monday night: Pause and trust in God’s Attributes. Psalms 46:1-3. In this lesson, we will explore how Hezekiah identified God’s attributes of refuge, strength, and ever-present. The lesson will discuss these attributes and how we need to know all of God’s attributes by pausing and reflecting on them.

Session 2: Tuesday Morning: Pause and Fast: Small groups will study Ezra 8:21-23 on fasting. The lesson will challenge youth to understand fasting and the need to pause. We will look at how Hezekiah put on sackcloth and prayed to God when Judea was surrounded (2 Kings 19:1, 2 Kings 18:6). The youth will also be challenged to fast from social media during the week. This should not be too hard. We are taking their phones this year.

Session 3: Wednesday Morning: Pause and Have Courage that God is with us. Psalm 46:4-7. We will look at how Hezekiah had the courage to trust God in all things. We will go back to 2 Kings 18 and 1 Kings 19:15-19 to see how Hezekiah showed courage and remained faithful to God as the king of Judea.

Session 4: Thursday Morning: Pause and Let God Fight for You. Psalm 46:8-11. We will study Psalm 46:10 and seek to understand that we must let God be God and fight our battles. We will also look at how God defeated the Assyrian army without Israel having to step onto the battlefield (2 Kings 19:35-37).

Beach House Location:  We will return to the Beach House Music rentals. We will have a house for the boys and the girls.

23344 Perdido Beach Blvd. Orange Beach Al 36561

Spending Money: The cost of camp is $450. I will send out the youth camp balances, including fundraiser amounts, later this week.  If you need a scholarship, please let me know asap.

Meals: Youth will need spending money for 2 meals, one on the way up and one on the way home. These will be fast food, such as Chick-fil-A or Canes. Youth are responsible for managing their money throughout the week. If they do not have enough money to eat on the way home, they will go hungry.

We will make stops at gas stations on the way. We will be taking 15-passenger vans this year. We will have to make stops for restroom breaks and gas.

Excursions

Youth will be able to participate in the following excursion activities. Each activity is optional except for putt-putt. (These days are subject to change due to weather.)

  • Tuesday: those who want to participate can go play basketball during their free time. This is free.
  • Wednesday: You have the option to go shopping or go fishing on the pier. Shopping money is at your discretion as a parent. Fishing will cost $10. Rod rental is $10. If you are 16 or older, you will need to get an Alabama pier fishing license online. I would not purchase this until Wednesday. We will need to check the weather conditions. View this link to learn more about pier fishing. https://www.alapark.com/parks/gulf-state-park/fishing-and-education-pier
  • Thursday: We will go play Putt-Putt on Thursday evening. The cost will be $10 per person.

Cell Phone Use:

  • My concerns over cell phone use include the possibility of cell phones being a distraction during worship and Bible study, youth not engaging with other youth, the temptation for inappropriate content youth may watch during the week, and staying up late. Parents, please have a conversation with your youth about their cell use during camp. I will adhere to these rules, and I will not have a lot of grace with cell phone usage.
  • Cell phones will be collected when we arrive at camp on Monday afternoon. Youth will receive their phones for no more than one hour each day on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Youth are responsible for charging their cell phones and keeping them charged during the day.
  • Youth are not to order food delivery services from their phones while at camp. (Grub Hub, pizza delivery, Uber Eats, etc.)
  • If anyone is caught violating the cell phone use rules, the youth minister may contact the parent if deemed necessary and confiscate the phone for the week. If a phone is confiscated, the parent will be notified.
  • Any youth who brings a secondary phone or tablet and turns in a secondary phone will be sent home. Parents will be notified and required to pick up their teenager.
  • Tablets or game systems are not allowed. We have had youth who needed to bring a computer to complete summer school assignments in the past. If this is the case, please speak with the youth minister. The computer will need to be turned in to the chaperones.

 Youth Camp Dress Code:

  • The youth camp dress code ensures that youth’s clothing does not hinder participation in activities and promotes Christ-like modesty, as everyone represents the ministry of New Zion. Please review the dress code as you pack. Adults will ask youth to change their clothing if it does not meet these expectations.
  • Girls may wear a modest one-piece bathing suit or a two-piece that covers the stomach. Please ensure the bathing suit does not show cleavage, is not see-through, and covers the buttocks.
  • Tank Tops are allowed for girls and boys as long as no cleavage is visible and the sides cannot be cut out. There should be at least two finger widths.
  • Shorts: Shorts must reach the fingertips or be below the fingertips when standing, with arms at the sides or no more than 5″ above the knees. (St. Tammany School Board Dress Code)
  • Shirts with spaghetti straps, open backs, or excessive armpit cutouts that expose the torso or undergarments are NOT allowed.
  • Oversized t-shirts that cover shorts that are too short should not be worn.
  • Tennis shoes are required if you do the sports outreach. (Pickle ball, Basketball, etc.)
  • Wear modest shorts, pants, jeans, or dresses for worship.
  • Dresses with spaghetti or thin straps, open backs, and excessively short lengths are unacceptable (when arms are extended to the back or front, fingertips must touch the fabric). Modest sleeveless tops are allowed in worship.
  • Yoga and leggings are acceptable as long as the shirt covers the front and the buttocks.
  • Do not pack or wear shirts with alcohol, cigarettes, vaping, drug branding, or Confederate flags. (We will work in a multicultural area. Anyone wearing a shirt deemed inappropriate will be asked to change.)
  • Explicitly or implicitly promotes racism, sexism, or hatred toward any group or person.
  • Refers to sexual actions or situations, explicitly or implicitly.
  • Do not dress in a way that draws attention to underwear (sagging your pants, rolling down your waistbands, etc.) or wear pants or shorts with lettering on the bottom.
  • No clothing should be worn that is excessively short or tight-fitting. NOTE: Adult leaders are responsible for modeling and monitoring their group to ensure students are dressing appropriately.
