Lunch Ministry
New Zion Lunch Ministry
At New Zion, we have a ministry to shut-ins and physically handicapped persons. Each Thursday volunteers, mostly senior adults, gather at our Family Ministry Center and begin preparing hot meals for delivery to needy people in the community. These are not necessarily members of New Zion and on any given week more than half of the recipients are not members of New Zion. These people live throughout the ministry area of the church. Some of these families live as far away as Bush, Folsom, Covington, or Abita Springs but most are concentrated within a few miles of the church.
Meal preparation begins at 8:00AM and is usually ready by 10:30 at which time those who will deliver arrive and together with cooks, dish washers and delivery personnel we have a prayer time. After the prayer, the serving line is formed and meals are served into slotted plates with lids.
Delivery personnel then distribute the meals to individual homes. At present we are serving at near capacity which is somewhere around 75-80. We are blessed to be using our new kitchen and larger facilities in our new Family Ministry Center. The limiting factor will always be the number of dedicated volunteers who are faithful to be present every Thursday to help with the work.
